Adam McCain charged in death of Calove Sackman Tuesday night

Bond's been set at $1 million cash for a Fort Madison man, accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend Tuesday night in Keokuk.

That bond was set Wednesday at an initial hearing in South Lee County District Court for 24-year old Adam McCain. He's charged with one count of 1st Degree Murder in the stabbing death of 27-year old Calove Sackman of Keokuk. Prosecutors say the incident happened around 10:30 PM in the 200 block of Main Street, near the River City Mall. Sackman died of her injuries at UnityPoint Health Keokuk hospital, but was able to identify McCain to a witness. He was arrested early Wednesday morning on a traffic violation by the Lee County Sheriff's Office, then turned over to Keokuk police.

Court documents reportedly say that the pair were in McCain's vehicle, when she got out during an argument. McCain then admitted getting out of his vehicle and stabbing Sackman once. As she escaped, McCain said he followed her briefly in his vehicle, then got out and stabbed her repeatedly, then left.

McCain's in the Lee County Jail, and will have a preliminary hearing February 15th.
