QPD says boy's being charged as an adult in shooting on Payson Avenue

A 16-year old Quincy boy has been arrested and charged as an adult in the July shooting of a 14-year old boy on the city's southwest side.

Quincy police announced Tuesday that they had arrested the 16-year old, identified only as K W Y, on an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant. He's been charged with one count of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. In a statement, police say that charge means that the boy's case will automatically be transferred out of juvenile court. They add that the incident was a dispute between the two boys, and not a random act of violence. That dispute happened July 19th at a home in the 900 block of Payson Avenue. A 14-year old boy told police he had been grazed in the head by a bullet, shot by the 16-year old.

K W Y is being held at the Adams County Youth Detention Center.
