70th Adams County resident dies of COVID-19

Virus also continues to spread at Illinois Veterans Home

A 70th Adams County resident has died of COVID-19.

The Adams County Health Department Wednesday announced the death of a man in his 60's, due to the virus. The Health Department says that 61 people tested positive on Tuesday. Over half the cases involve people under 40. In addition, another 1,100 people tested negative Tuesday. The positives bring the County's total to 6,372. The number of active cases has increased to 578, and the 7-day positivity rate is now at 7.3 per cent. The number of people hospitalized keeps going down, and is now at 52. 5 people are in the Intensive Care Unit. For a fourth straight day, there are no hospital or critical-care beds available in Adams County.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 continues to spread at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy.

On Wednesday, Home Administrator Troy Culbertson said that 10 new cases of the virus were found among residents and staff since Monday. He made the announcement in a letter to residents and their families. Culbertson said there were 4 new cases of COVID-19 among residents, and 6 new cases among staff. That makes a total of 132 cases among residents and 151 cases among staff since the start of the pandemic. That's a total of 283 cases.

76 residents and staff currently have active cases of the virus.
