Land donated by ADM; Full County Board must approve pick

An Adams County Board committee will recommend the County's Ambulance Service build a new facility on land donated to it at 29th and Chestnut in Quincy.

The County's Ambulance Building committee, appointed by County Board Chairman Les Post in July, will present its recommendation to the full Board next month. The Committee recommends building an approximatly 6,400 square foot station on the property, offered by ADM to the county for the ambulance station. In a statement, Adams County EMS Chief J. Paul Davis says the site was chosen "because of its access to major thoroughfares and its relative centralized location within the southwest Adams County response district." That includes Quincy and Melrose, Ellington, Riverside, Burton and Fall Creek townships.

Chuck Loefer, Vice president of ADM Animal Nutrition, in making the donation, said “ADM is pleased to offer the donation of two acres of land to Adams County Ambulance and Emergency Medical Services, for the construction of a new ambulance building. With more than 500 employees living and working in the Quincy area, we understand the importance of giving first responders the best tools—and in this case, land—they need to do their jobs. Over the past five years, ADM has contributed more than $635,000 to the Quincy community through our ADM Cares program, and this donation is just one more example of our commitment to help the vibrant community of Quincy continue to grow and prosper.”

The total cost of the project is expected to be less than $1.5 million. That;s the amount that was estimated in a study done earlier this year into what the Ambulance District would need to spend for a new home. The Ambulance District is looking for a new home, after Blessing Hospital informed the County they need to vacate Blessing's 14th Street campus by the end of the year.
