Deputy, 2nd driver injured during traffic stop on I-172 near Columbus Road

An Adams County Sheriff's deputy was among two people hurt Thursday morning in a crash that caused Interstate 172 near Quincy to be partially closed for four hours.

The Sheriff's Office says that the deputy was conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle, when he was hit by a van. Chief Deputy Rich Wagner says that the deputy's injuries weren't life-threatening, and that the deputy, and the driver of the van, were both taken to Blessing Hospital. The Illinois State Police say they're investigating the crash on south-bound I-172, near milepost 16 at Columbus Road. That accident happened around 9 Thursday morning. South-bound traffic on I-172 was diverted at US 24 and exit 19.

The ISP says the south-bound lanes of the Interstate were re-opened just before 1 Thursday afternoon.
