Vaccinations for kids 5-11 start Friday at Health Department

The Adams County Health Department says it will start giving kids the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.

The Health Department said Wednesday that they'll start administering the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to kids age 5 to 11 on Friday. The vaccine is administered as a series of two doses, 3 weeks apart. Anyone who wants to get a vaccine should bring their insurance card. The Health Department's immunization clinic is open on a walk-in basis Monday-Friday from 8 AM to 4:15 PM. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended the Pfizer vaccine for kids on Tuesday, after the FDA approved it last week. The Illinois Department of Public Health has also adopted the CDC recommendation.

Hy-Vee also announced that they would be giving the vaccine at select pharmacies. A statement from the company said they had a limited supply, and asked that people make an appointment through their website.
