Census results: County shrank by nearly 400 people in 2016
The latest figures from the US Census shows that the population in Western Illinois continues to fall, especially in Adams County.
Those figures show that from 2015 to 2016, Adams County lost some 400 people, and has a population of 66 thousand, 500 people. Other local counties showed a population loss of between 30 to 60 people per county. McDonough County also saw a large population loss, down 340 people last year. In Northeast Missouri, results varied, with Marion County showing a gain of 30 people, to just under 29 thousand. Ralls, Pike and Knox counties all saw population gains, while Lewis, Clark and Shelby counties all saw declines. Lee County Iowa also saw a decline of 150 people in 2016, to 34 thousand 600.
The Quincy, Macomb and Fort Madison-Keokuk micropolitan areas all saw decreases, while the Hannibal micropolitan area saw a two tenths of a per cent rise last year.
