Adams County pauses use of J&J COVID-19 vaccine

Will use Pfizer vaccine at mobile clinics this week

The Adams County Health Department has joined both Illinois and Missouri health officials in pausing use of Johnson and Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine.

The Health Department announced Tuesday that they will switch to the Pfizer vaccine for the remaining COVID-19 vaccination clinics this week. That comes after a recommendation from the Illinois Department of Public Health to temporarily stop using the Johnson and Johnson vaccine. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services also announced Tuesday that they would pause using the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The actions were taken after both the Centers for Disease Control and the Federal Food and Drug Administration issued a statement asking for the pause. It's due to six reported cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in people after they got the J&J vaccine. Nearly 7 million Johnson and Johnson vaccines have been given so far in the U.S.

Authorities say that people who have received the J&J vaccine, who then develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should call their health care provider.
