Adams County Traffic Patrols STEPped up

4 years, 11 months ago by Jim Dewey

Illinois State Police will be conducting Special Traffic Enforcement Patrols in Adams County this month.

The STEP patrols allow Satte Police to focus on what they call the fatal four violations which contribute to the greatest number of traffic crashes and fatalities. The fatal four include Driving Under the Influence - Safety Belt and Child Restraint misuse - Speeding and Distracted Driving.

During the STEPs - State Police will increase both daytime and nighttime patrols to ensure the safety of travelers through enforcement of all traffic safety laws.

State Police say impaired driving is a factor in more than 30 percent of traffic deaths in Illinois. Speeding is a factor in nearly 35 percent of fatal crashes; and nearly 50 percent of vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes were known to not be buckled up.

This project is funded through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
