Mexico, MO man sentenced in 2018 shooting death in Monroe County

A Mexico, Missouri man, convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his fiance’ in Monroe County, two days before their planned April 2018 wedding, will spend the rest of his life in prison.

James Addie was in Cole County Circuit Court Monday for a sentencing hearing. Records show that Judge Jon Beetem sentenced Addie to life in prison without parole on one count of 1st Degree Murder. Addie was also sentenced to 10 years in prison on one count of Armed Criminal Action. Beetem also turned down a defense request for a new trial. The case was heard in Cole County on a change of venue. In late April, a jury deliberated for just 2 1/2 hours before finding Addie Guilty on both counts. Addie was charged one day after Mollie Watson's body was found in Monroe County. Prosecutors had said that Watson was shot once in the head just two days before the pair were to be married in Columbia.

The pair had a relationship for seven years, even though Addie was married to his then-wife for over 20 years.
