Snider: "98% sure" Board will agree to final cost

The Adams County Board may meet again at the end of the month, to approve a contract to build the new County Jail. Scott Hardy has more.

The Board heard from Jail Sub-Committee member Kent Snider Tuesday night, who said that negotiations with Williams Brothers are progressing on the contract. Afterwards, Snider spelled out just how confident he was about reaching an agreement that the Board would approve.

The Board, meeting in special session late last month, voted to start talks with Williams Brothers Incorporated over changes to the designs the company put a $32.55 million dollar bid on. That was lower than the four bids the County rejected in July, but still over two and a half million dollars higher than what the County Board wants to spend. Whether or not that means the Jail's bed count would temporarily drop from 196 to 172, Snider says that's still up in the air. He adds that if enough money's saved, those 24 beds may still be included. Snider was confident on one point.

The County Board also voted to approve the appointment of Raquel Piazza to 3rd District Board seat. She was nominated to take Todd Degitz's place, after he resigned in July.
