Amanda Perry sentenced to 9 years in prison

6 years, 6 months ago by Scott Hardy

Admitted pointing gun at her husband July 5th

A Quincy woman has admitted pointing a loaded gun at her husband in July, and has been sentenced to prison.

Amanda Perry pleaded Guilty but Mentally Ill Wednesday in Adams County Circuit Court to one count of Attempted Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. As part of a plea deal, six charges, including 1st Degree Attempted Murder, and a second Class X charge of aggravated battery with a firearm, were dropped. Perry was then sentenced to 9 years in prison, and 2 years mandatory parole. She could have been sentenced to up to 15 years. The Guilty but Mentally Ill plea means Perry will receive treatment while serving her sentence. Both the prosecution and defense said that Perry was mentally ill at the time of the shooting, but that her illness didn't rise to the level of a legal defense. The prosecution also said that the settlement was done with the approval and input of Perry's husband Michael.

Amanda Perry was charged in connection with the July 5th shooting of her husband in their home in the 1100 block of Vermont. He was taken to Blessing Hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to the eye.
