Ameren Illinois announces gas line replacement in District

2 miles of lines to be replaced through August

Ameren Illinois says it's going to spend $1.3 million to upgrade its' gas service in Quincy's Historic Business District. Scott Hardy has more.

The utility announced Thursday that work on replacing over 2 miles of gas mains will start this month, and continue through August. The work, which will take place in an area from 6th to 10th Streets, from Jersey to near Broadway, is part of a multi-year plan to upgrade Ameren's gas and electric infrastructure in Illinois. Ameren Supervising Engineer Quinton Snyder says they're doing the work now, to aid future beautification efforts in the District.

Snyder says there won't be any street shutdowns during the project, and that they don't want any disruptions for drivers or District business owners.

Ameren also says it will relocate over 110 gas meters from indoors to outdoors during the work.
