Possible heavy rains expected this weekend
Drought conditions continue to lessen to the north of the Quincy-Hannibal area, and this weekend's forecast calls for some more relief.
That's according to the latest report released Thursday by the U.S. Drought Monitor. The report says that abnormally dry conditions continue in McDonough and parts of Hancock and Schuyler counties in Illinois, and parts of Lee and Van Buren counties in southeast Iowa. The past week saw moderate drought conditions lessen in the far northeast section of Lee County. The northern halves of Des Moines and Henry counties in Iowa, and the northern third of Henderson County, Illinois, continue to suffer from moderate drought. Adams, Pike, Brown and Scott counties in Illinois, and all of Northeast Missouri remain drought-free.
The forecast is calling for 1 to 3 inches of rain this weekend in Southeast Iowa, and 3 to 4 inches in the Quincy-Hannibal area.
