Area unemployment rates drop in April

Quincy down .4%, Adams Co. down .5%

The latest jobless figures for April show unemployment is down in both Illinois and Missouri.  

Figures released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security show unemployment in Quincy fell by four tenths to 5.4 per cent. In Adams County, the rate fell by five tenths to 5 per cent. The combined Quincy-Hannibal jobless rate fell by seven tenths, to 4.6 per cent, and the city of Hannibal's rate fell by eight tenths, to 4 per cent.

All Illinois counties in the WTAD listening area saw a drop in unemployment in April, led by Pike County, down one per cent. It was the same story in Missouri, with all counties showing a drop in their rates as well. Several counties, including Knox, Shelby Ralls and Monroe, all had over a one per cent drop in their jobless rates in April.
