Steven Gavin's defense can't find cell phone expert; hearing set for August 15

A Quincy man, accused of murder in the 2015 shooting death of Carlous Wires, Senior, has had his August trial date scratched because his defense can't find an expert witness.

Steven Gavin was in Adams County Circuit Court Wednesday for a status hearing, ahead of an August 13th trial. That date was stricken, after Gavin's attorney said he's not been able to find a cell phone expert to testify. He said that the expert would be vital to the defense's case. One's expected to be found when Gavin's back in court for a status hearing August 15th. He's pleaded Not Guilty to four counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Armed Robbery. His case has had numerous delays since last August, including a postponement of a February trial. Prosecutors say Gavin shot and killed Wires, and then robbed him in his home in the 700 block of North 4th Street in November, 2015, over a disagreement about a drug sale.

Gavin's in the Adams County Jail on $5 million bond.
