Blessing Hospital gets

Rating comes from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' "Hospital Compare" program

Blessing Hospital is among the most highly rated in the area, according to a Federal government agency.

That news Monday from Blessing Health System, which says that Blessing Hospital earned an annual overall rating of four out of five stars among 4 thousand Medicare-certified hospitals in the country. Ratings were released by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, through its “Hospital Compare” program. CMS created the program to help health care consumers make decisions about where to get their health care and to encourage hospitals to improve the quality of the care they provide. A statement from Blessing says that the annual overall rating is based on more than 100 measures divided into seven measure groups or categories. The data used for the annual overall rating was calculated from data gathered last February and October.

Blessing says that of nearly 160 Illinois providers in Hospital Compare just over 30 percent, including Blessing, earned an overall four star rating. Of the 28 participating hospitals within a two hour drive of Quincy, fewer than half, including Blessing, earned that same rating
