Bon-Ton Stores to be liquidated; Bergner's in Quincy Mall to close

6 years ago by Associated Press / Scott Hardy

Closure to happen within 3 months

The end is near for department store operator The Bon-Ton Stores, including the Bergner's in the Quincy Mall.

Two liquidation firms won an auction for the bankrupt company's assets, after the retailer failed to find a bidder willing to continue operating the business. A bankruptcy court hearing is scheduled for Wednesday to approve the sale and liquidation details. Bon-Ton was operating 260 stores in 24 states, largely in the Northeast and Midwest, when it filed for bankruptcy in January. Cullinan Properties, owners of the Quincy Mall, have confirmed to our news-gathering partners at KHQA-TV that the Bergner's will close. In a statement, Cullinan expressed its' disappointment in the closing, saying that the store was one of Bon-Ton's top performers.

Cullinan also said that they began "evaluating opportunities to backfill their space in Quincy several months ago." All of Bon-Ton's stores are expected to close within the next three months.
