Both sides report progress in QF/QPS talks

Union to hear results Tuesday at 5 PM at Machinist Hall, with vote taken tonight and Wednesday.

Quincy Federation members will meet Tuesday afternoon to get an update on the latest talks between the Union and the Quincy Public Schools.

Negotiators held a nearly-five hour negotiating session Monday night, and our news-gathering partners at KHQA report that according to Quincy Federation President Jen Drew, the two sides made progress while focusing on contract language, insurance and benefits. According to Drew, "Hopefully we're just going to keep thinking outside the box and find ways to work together to benefit the employees and children of Quincy," Drew said. Quincy Public School Board President Sayeed Ali agreed that progress was made in the negotiations, saying, "we have made some ground and we'll see what membership decides tomorrow." When asked if the talks could lead to QF membership delaying a Monday strike in the hope of locking in a new contract, Drew would only say, "We'll have to wait and see what the membership has to say."

Quincy Union members will meet Tuesday afternoon at 5 PM at the Machinists Hall. Drew says that voting will take place there until 8 PM, and on Wednesday at the union office from 9 AM to 5:30 PM. It's expected that final results will be submitted to the QPS board either later Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.
