Rain in the forecast; numerous street closures planned

The threat of rain in the forecast for Saturday morning hovers over an event in Quincy Saturday morning, designed to aid a local charity.

The 17th annual Bridge the Gap to Health Race is set for Saturday morning, and is expected to bring in an estimated 25 hundred runners, spectators, and volunteers in the downtown and race course areas. The forecast is calling for showers and thunderstorms up to the start of the race, and organizers are urging those involved to sign up for text alerts, in case the race be delayed or even canceled. To subscribe, text bridge the gap to 888777. If the race is held, numerous streets will be closed along and near the route of the race, as well as traffic on both bridges crossing the Mississippi River would be down to one lane. That includes Maine Street from the Memorial Bridge to 24th Street, which will be closed from 6 to 10:30 AM. Other streets will be closed from 4 AM to Noon, including Broadway, Vermont and Hampshire, all from Front to 3rd. Organizers will also have detours set up on the Memorial Bridge and Illinois 57. Numerous parks along the race route will also be closed that morning. The race is a fundraiser for Quincy Catholic Charities.

The following streets will be closed from 4:00am until 12:00pm:

The organizers also say that In order to allow the public the quickest routes north and south of the closures, the following detours have been established:
