Canton man found Not Guilty of murder in Adair County

5 years, 10 months ago by Scott Hardy

Cody Wilson, 20, had been on trial since Monday in death of step-father

A Canton man, charged with First Degree Murder in the shooting death of his step-father in 2017, has been found Not Guilty on all charges.

An Adair County jury Thursday handed down that ruling in the fourth day of the trial of 20-year old Cody Wilson on counts of 1st Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action. The trial was held in Adair County Circuit court on a change of venue from Lewis County. Wilson had been accused of shooting and killing his step-father, 56 year old David Brooks, in late April 2017 at a home just west of Canton. A probable cause statement said that Brooks and his wife were arguing all day, and that Wilson admitted to authorities that after waking up from a nap and hearing more arguing, he snapped, got out a handgun he kept in a drawer in his room, then shot Brooks in the couple's bedroom.

Wilson had been held in the Lewis County Jail on $1 million bond since the night of the shooting.
