Chamber names Conover, Gerdes to Business Hall

Both will be inducted January 15

The Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce has announced two new members of its' Business Hall of Fame.  

The Chamber Wednesday announced that former Quincy University President Phil Conover and the late Bill Gerdes III will be inducted into its' Business Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held during the Chamber's annual Meeting January 15th at the Oakley-Lindsay Center. The Chamber says it also plans to award Dot Foods and Chris Taylor of For Home and Her for their efforts in promoting Diversity. Dot Foods will receive the D&I Excellence Award and Taylor will get the D&I Champion Award.

The Chamber says it's honoring Conover as much for his work with John Wood Community College. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees and President from 1983 to 1989. He also helped establish the JWCC Foundation. Gerdes is being honored for his work at Michelmann Steel Company. He was the company's fourth President, from 1975 to 2006. Gerdes died in 2009 at the age of 74.

The Business Hall of Fame was started in 2006 by the Chamber to "celebrate the rich history and accomplishments of the Quincy area business community."
