Board Chairman Les Post says changes will happen over next few months

The Chairman of the Adams County Board says changes will be made in the County's policy on indigent burials.

County Board Chairman Les Post Tuesday night told the County Board, and some 20 people attending the meeting over the issue that "the policy is being looked at, and changes will be made." Earlier in the meeting, two people spoke about the policy put in effect by Coroner Jim Keller at the start of the state budget stalemate. They included Wendy Smith, who was interviewed in an Associated Press story earlier this month over the policy, which has Keller hold on to relatives' cremated remains until they pay a one thousand dollar fee. The County Board also approved appointing Ryan Niekamp to the revised 911 Board.

For now, the County only has one elected Board member, but that could increase to three under a bill that's passed the State Senate and is now in the Illinois House.
