Tanker overturned north of campground

A section of Missouri 168 in Marion County, near the Bayview Campground, remains closed after a chemical spilled from a tanker truck.

Marion County Emergency Services first issued a warning late Monday morning to avoid the road, after a BASF tractor-trailer overturned on 168, about a half-mile north of Bayview Campground. Authorities say that a chemical did leak from a container, carrying what's been identified as lupranate mdi iso-cyanate, used to make polyurethane compounds. BASF company literature says it's used in coatings, elastomers, adhesives, textiles, and paints. Traffic has been halted on the road, and it will stay closed through mid-afternoon.

The truck was on its' way to the nearby BASF plant, when the load shifted, and it tipped over. The driver is reported to be OK.
