Children killed in Quincy house fire died of smoke inhalation

Children killed in Quincy house fire died of smoke inhalation

5 years, 5 months ago by Scott Hardy

Preliminary autopsy results released Monday

Authorities have determined what killed two children Friday night at a fire on the Quincy's northwest side.

Adams County Coroner John Myers says that 8-year old Toby Brewer and 5-year old Emma Kramer both died Friday night of smoke inhalation. That's based on the preliminary results of an autopsy performed Saturday in Bloomington. The children were found unresponsive on the top floor of a home in the 600 block of North 8th, after a report of a fire was called in. That's where the fire was said to have started. An older brother and the children's mother were able to get out of the home. Grief counselors are at two Quincy elementary schools Monday, in the wake of that tragedy. Those counselors are spending the day at Rooney Elementary School, which the children attended. They're also at Iles Elementary School.

The investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
