The Council Monday night voted to accept the low bid of over 111 thousand dollars from Austin Properties Management for a four year contract to beautify the Central Business District. That averages 27 thousand dollars a year, which is more than the 15 thousand a year that the City paid to the District. City Developement Director Chuck Bevelheimer says the contract covers quite a bit of places to clean up.

Bevelheimer says that once a week, Austin will cover an area from 3rd to 9th Streets between Jersey and Vermont, and will start re-planting the flower boxes this spring. The Council voted to table a proposal to make an early payment to the Police and Firefighter pension funds. An ordinance had been up that would have had the city make its' 2017 payment for the funds, worth some $760,000, before the start of the fiscal year in May.
