Bridge completed in 2011; billed after 4 1/2 years

The City of Quincy will have to pay 200 thousand dollars to the state, after it was billed earlier this year for a bridge built five years ago. Scott Hardy explains.

The money is for the North 5th Street Bridge, completed in 2011. City Engineer Jeffrey Conte explained to the Council that his department got the bill from the Illinois Department of Transportation earlier this year, four and a half years after the bridge was finished. After the meeting, Conte said he thought the project was all taken care of.

According to Conte, the bill was delayed in coming to the Council, so his department could check to see if they owed the money.

The Council eventually voted 11 to 2 to pay the money out of the Motor Fuel Tax fund. They also voted to spend nearly $310,000 to repair several city streets and sidewalks.
