First case is a man in his 30's who was infected while traveling; resting at home

Adams County has it's first case of COVID-19.

The news was revealed Thursday afternoon by local officials during a briefing at the Adams County Emergency Management Agency. The Adams County Health Department says a county resident has tested positive at the Illinois Department of Public Health lab for COVID-19. The resident is a man in his 30s and was exposed to the virus while traveling. He's now recovering at home. County EMA Director John Simon stressed the importance of social distancing to halt the spread of the virus.

State and local public health officials have started an investigation to understand what contacts the man had prior to the diagnosis. Public Health Administrator Jerrod Welch says in a statement that the Health Department staff is working to quickly identify, interview and learn the risk for people who may have been in close contact with man.

The Health Department says that more cases of COVID-19 are expected in the United States, and in Adams County.
