Emerson trial delayed 2 more months

Emerson trial delayed 2 more months

4 months ago by Scott Hardy

Now set for Oct 18-20

A Hannibal man, accused of shooting three people at a party in March 2016, has had his trial delayed for another two months.

The three-day trial of Carl Emerson which was set to start August 29th, has now been moved back to October 18th. That's after a tele-conference Wednesday between the prosecution, defense and Judge David Mobley, where Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton revealed he had a scheduling conflict. Emerson's trial was originally set to start Wednesday, but his defense had the trial delayed three months. Emerson's charged with three counts of 1st Degree Assault, and three counts of Armed Criminal Action in the shootings of Angelica Cadwell, Benjamin Gillum and Phillip Egbert in the 1000 block of Fulton. The shootings happened during an argument over an alleged racial slur used by Egbert during a story.

Emerson remains in the Marion County Jail on $300,000 bond. He'll be back in court for a motion hearing next month.
