Nominations for Agribusiness of the Year Being Accepted

The Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce’s Agribusiness Committee is seeking nominations for the 2013 Agribusiness of the Year Award through Feb. 6. Each year, the committee honors a business for the role it plays in the community and agriculture. The contest is open to businesses of any size within a 50-mile radius of Quincy and is not limited to chamber members. Eligible businesses include those that:

  • Stress community involvement
  • Have strong ties to the agricultural community and a record of strong service
  • Follow progressive business practices

Past winners are Lewis Hybrids, Ursa Farmers Cooperative, Farmers Livestock Sales of Coatsburg, Farm & Home Supply, Lee Fertilizer, Inc. of Camp Point, Geo. Keller & Sons, Selby Implement Co., Dearwester Grain, Bunte Truck Service, B&B Livestock Supply, Western Illinois Veterinary Clinic and Mast Productions.

Letters of nomination should include a detailed description of the agribusiness, noting what makes it a qualified candidate and why it stands out. Letters that supply as much information as possible about the business help the contest judges make their decisions.

Nomination letters may be mailed to: Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce, 300 Civic Center Plaza, Ste. 245, Quincy, IL 62301. They may also be faxed to 217-222-3033 or emailed to amy@quincychamber.org.

Winners will be notified in advance and will be honored at the Chamber’s annual Ag Breakfast on March 12. This year’s keynote speaker is Colleen Callahan, Illinois Director of  USDA Rural Development and Federal Disaster Recovery Coordinator.
