Brent Fischer fired as head of Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board over activist linked to cover-ups

A former Adams County Sheriff has been fired from his job with the state of Illinois over a Democratic activist, linked to a purported cover-up of a rape and illegal state hiring.

The Associate Press reports that former Sheriff Brent Fischer was fired from his job as the Executive Director of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board on September 8th. Fischer was forced in early 2020 to end a contract with Forrest Ashby of Quincy, after his name surfaced in purported government cover-ups involving a rape and illegal state hiring. Fischer previously served as the Adams County Sheriff before announcing his resignation in 2015. Keith Calloway, who's Fischer's replacement, says he can't comment on the 54-year-old Fischer's termination. It is unclear if it was connected to his leadership on the board in January 2020 when an incendiary email surfaced naming Ashby, prompting the board to cancel Ashby's employment.

That email was revealed during the investigation into former State Representative and lobbyist Mike McClain of Quincy. In the email sent by McClain, he hinted at cover-ups of a rape in Champaign, and "ghost employees" by Ashby, while he was the warden of the Department of Human Services facility in Rushville. McClain now faces Federal corruption charges.
