La Trisha Crist to be in court February 25

The former City Collector of Canton, Missouri, charged with forging an official document and stealing from an elderly family member, will have a preliminary hearing next month.

La Trisha Crist was in Lewis County Associate Court Wednesday on one count of forgery and four counts of financial exploitation of an elderly or disabled person. She'll have a preliminary hearing February 17th. Crist is accused of making a false document in June, while working as the clerk in charge of Canton's water and sewer bills. She's alleged to replaced her name for a family member on the water account for a property she owns in the 100 block of South Fifth Street in Canton. That bill had a $300 balance at the time, and Crist allegedly did that without permission from supervisors. Crist is also accused of stealing over $6,000 from an elderly and disabled family member. Authorities have said they learned of the allegation in June, and that Crist had been handling the person's finances since 2017. Crist, who had been City Collector since 2005, was fired by the City shortly after authorities started investigating.

She's free on a total of $10,000 bond.
