Joel Box indicted on one count of Theft over $10,000; picked up in Rockford

A former John Wood and Quincy University basketball star, who was the subject of numerous complaints about his business, has been arrested in Rockford.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that 35-year old Joel Box was picked up earlier that day on an Adams County warrant. The Sheriff's Office says that their officers, along with both Quincy and Rockford police, all took part in his arrest. Box has been charged with one count of Theft over $10,000, and was indicted two weeks ago by an Adams County Grand Jury. A charging document says that between last November and this June, Box accepted payments for lessons and camps at his business, Joel Box Evolution Basketball. Authorities say he never provided the lessons or held the camps. The case came to light after the local Better Business Bureau released a statement warning consumers to use caution when doing business with Box. The BBB gave his business an "F" rating, its' lowest, due to several recent un-answered customer complaints.

Box has been returned to Quincy, and is in the Adams County Jail on $100,000 bond. He's due in court on Tuesday.
