Former Quincy man arrested after hours-long armed standoff

Jason McEntee held officers at bay Friday in a vehicle on North 25th Street

A former Quincy man is in jail after an armed standoff, that lasted over six hours Friday, ended peacefully in a neighborhood on Quincy's north side.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office identifies him as 43-year old Jason Mc Entee of Port Byron, Illinois. A report says that around 1 P.M. Friday, officers with the West Central Illinois Drug Task Force and the U.S. Marshals Service's Violent Fugitive Task Force tried to arrest Mc Entee on an IDOC parole warrant, during a traffic stop on North 25th Street between Spring and Oak Streets. The report says that when officers approached the vehicle, McEntee barricaded himself in it, said he had a firearm and would shoot the officers on scene. That's when the Sheriff's Office and Quincy Police set up a perimeter around the area, and blocked traffic. They also asked nearby residents to leave the area. Over the next four hours, negotiators tried several times to get Mc Entee to surrender unsuccessfully. Officials then decided to force Mc Entee out of the vehicle with gas canisters. They did, and Mc Entee then surrendered peacefully.

Mc Entee is in the Adams County Jail, and is likely to be in court Monday. He was sentenced in March in Adams County to four years in prison after pleading Guilty to a felony count of Aggravated Battery and a misdemeanor count of Domestic Battery. That was from a 2017 incident. Mc Entee also received credit for spending over two years in jail before the settlement with prosecutors.
