Delay will allow prosecution to complete mental health exam of Aushena Warren

A former Quincy woman, accused of murder in her young son's death in June 2017 in suburban Kansas City, has had her case delayed nearly three months so a second mental health evaluation can be completed.

Aushena Warren was in Platte County, Missouri Circuit Court Thursday for a status hearing. Records show that the hearing was delayed to July 11th, so the results of a mental-health evaluation of Warren by the prosecution could be finished. The defense has already turned in an evaluation. Warren's attorneys plan to rely on a trial defense of mental disease, saying that at the time of the alleged crimes, she wasn't responsible for her actions. She's facing counts of 1st Degree Murder and Felony Abandonment of a Corpse in the death of her 8-year old son Audrick. After her arrest, Warren allegedly told authorities she was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, and that she wasn't on her medication. A probable cause statement says that Warren was worried about the family's finances, and feared her children would be taken away.

Warren remains in the Platte County Jail on $500,000 bond.
