Adam McCain appeals October ruling in death of CaLove Sackman
A Fort Madison man, convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend earlier this year near a Keokuk shopping center, has appealed his conviction.
Adam McCain was found guilty on one count of first-degree murder after an October bench trial. Records show that on October 28, four days after McCain's conviction, Lee County public defender Kendra Abfalter filed the appeal with the Iowa Supreme Court. When McCain was convicted, Lee County District Court Judge Mary Ann Brown said it was clear that McCain stabbed CaLove Sackman several times and hit her with his van. Brown then sentenced McCain to life in prison without parole, per Iowa law.
McCain will now be defended by an Appellate defender. No date's been set yet for an appeal hearing.
