Mark & Chris Lawrence no longer with organization

The founders of a Quincy-based organization that builds tiny homes for veterans have been fired.

Mark and Chris Lawrence, the founders of 2 by 4's for Hope, are no longer with the organization, according to a statement issued Monday. It said that the Lawrence's "have been relieved of their duties to address personal issues". Those issues may include allegations of theft. Authorities say they've heard complaints that the Lawrence's sold donated power tools to a local retailer. The Illinois State Police are investigating those and other charges. 2 by 4's for Hope have filed a restraining order against the Lawrence's as well. A hearing on that order, that was filed last Friday, will be held Monday in Adams County Circuit Court.

In addition, Quincy Medical Group has put on hold a $65,000 donation to the group. The money was to be used to build a new tiny home on the city's northwest side. A ground-breaking was held just last Thursday, on Veteran's Day.
