Four NE MO counties file motion to dismiss count in Ameren Transmission suit

Suit filed over original route of Mark Twain Transmission Line

Four Northeast Missouri counties have filed a motion to dismiss one of three counts in a civil suit filed by an Illinois company that wants to build a high-voltage power line in Northeast Missouri.

That motion was filed Tuesday by attorneys representing Marion, Knox, Shelby and Schuyler counties in the suit filed by Ameren Transmission over the original route of the Mark Twain Transmission Line. That's a high-voltage power line that would run from near Palmyra to the Iowa line. Ameren filed the suit after those four counties, and Adair County, refused to allow access to rights-of-way to build the line. A Western Missouri Court of Appeals ruling overturned a Public Service Commission ruling that gave Ameren the OK to build the line, if they got approval from the counties. Ameren's since decided to work with Northeast Power and Ameren Missouri on a revised route for the line. Adair County was dropped as a defendant in the suit in early August.

The judge hearing the case has taken the motion under advisement, as all sides continue working on ending the matter.
