Ameren Illinois had power back on by late afternoon

About 4,000 Quincy residents were without power for much of Sunday afternoon, after a car crashed into a utility pole.

Ameren Illinois officials said they learned that the power outage was caused by the accident in the 3600 block of South 12th. Tri-Township Assistant Fire Chief Darren Smith said that the road was closed for several hours, and that the accident happened when a female driver over-corrected at the wheel to avoid an animal in the road, and hit the pole. Ameren Illinois officials said that at its' height, just over four thousand people on Quincy's south side were without power.
