State Rep Nate Walker announces candidacy

A fourth Republican says he's a candidate in next year's race for the Missouri 18th District State Senate.

State Representative Nate Walker of Kirksville officially announced Wednesday that he's running for the seat being given up by current Senator Brian Munzlinger. Walker currently represents the 3rd District, which includes Kirksville and western Adair, as well as Sullivan, Putnam and Mercer counties in Missouri. In a statement, Walker says he gained national attention for his efforts to stop tax dollars from funding NFL stadiums, including a proposed stadium in St. Louis, while it was trying to keep the Rams from moving to Los Angeles. Walker also says that, if elected, he'll try to shrink state government. Walker joins three other candidates in a now-crowded GOP primary field. State Reps Lindell Shumake of Hannibal and Craig Redmon of Canton and Shelbina businesswoman Cindy O'Laughlin have also said they're running in next August's primary.

Munzlinger is stepping down due to term limits. Shumake and Redmon are also facing term limits in the House.
