Accused of shooting at QPD, Adams Co. Sheriff's deputies in August

A January trial of a Quincy man, indicted on eight counts including four counts of attempted first degree murder after allegedly shooting at authorities, is on after a hearing Wednesday.

Gaven Steele was in Adams County Circuit Court for a status hearing, ahead of his trial starting January 14th. That trial date is still set, and Gavin will be in court again January 3rd. A Grand Jury handed down an eight-count indictment in late August against Steele. That includes four counts of Attempted First Degree Murder, two counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and one count each of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and Aggravated Fleeing. The charges stem from an August 23rd incident, where a Quincy Police officer allegedly saw Steele fire a weapon at a home in the 900 block of North 11th Street. Steele's also accused of shooting at both the QPD and Adams County Sheriff's deputies on the Bayview Bridge while trying to flee.

Steele is already serving a 4-year prison term, after he was sentenced in September for violating his probation from a 2013 Adams County robbery conviction. He also faces a $5 million bond in Adams County.
