Goldberg trial delayed

6 years, 10 months ago by Scott Hardy

Was to be held next month; could be delayed 2-4 months

The trial of a Las Vegas man, accused of killing his father with a crossbow and leaving his body in the freezer of a Hannibal home, has been delayed.

Carl Goldberg was set to go on trial next month on counts of 2nd Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action in the death of his 84 year-old father, Carl Maxwell. At a recent hearing in Monroe County court, Goldberg's defense asked for, and was granted a continuance in the case. The three-day trial, which was to have started June 21st, could now start anytime between August and October. The trial is being heard in Monroe County on a change of venue. Goldberg allegedly told Hannibal detectives he shot Maxwell twice with a crossbow in February 2015. Goldberg then allegedly put his father’s body in a freezer at a vacant house on Broadway and left it there, until it was found 8 months later.

Goldberg is in the Marion County Jail on 1 million dollars' bond.
