Darlene Senger in Quincy to call for combining Comptroller, Treasurer's offices

The Republican candidate for Illinois Comptroller was in Quincy Wednesday, calling for a ballot issue to consolidate that and the Treasurer's offices.

Former State Representative Darlene Senger made that call for a consolidation question to appear on a future ballot at a press conference, saying it's a way to reduce the size of state government. She notes that former State Treasurer Judy Baar Topinka was in favor of the idea, and so is current GOP candidate for Treasurer Jim Dodge. Senger says she hopes the idea catches on with voters.

Senger and Dodge want to merge the offices of Comptroller and Treasurer, and create a Chief Financial Officer for the state. Senger says that her opponent, Democrat and current Comptroller Susana Mendoza, is opposed to the idea. The Illinois Senate voted in 2012 to put a similar measure on the 2014 ballot, but the measure was blocked in the Illinois House.
