Will become President/CEO of Quincy Area Chamber November 15

The head of a Quincy organization that supports the Historic Downtown Business District says he's stepping down.

Bruce Guthrie, who's been Executive Director of The District since 2014, announced Friday he's resigning effective November 12th. He's leaving to take over as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce. That was announced Friday night. In a statement, the Chamber said that Guthrie will start the following Monday, November 15th. In a letter to District businesses, Guthrie cited the development and growth in The District over the past seven years, and new projects underway. Those include the View 21 project at 3rd and Maine, the new Patio, the redevelopment of the Illinois State Bank building into a boutique hotel at 6th and Vermont and the continued development of 6th Street between Maine and Vermont.

Chamber Board of Directors Chair Chaka Batley said in a statement that Guthrie will be "instrumental in the enhancement of the services and support the Chamber provides to our business community, while leading a financially healthy Chamber of Commerce with its 600+ members in the heart of the tri-state area."
