Bids due by January 7
The Hannibal Board of Public Works says it's looking for bids to build the city's proposed new water filtration system.
The BPW sent out a notice Thursday that it's seeking bids to build what it calls a Granular Activated Carbon Facility. That method of water disinfection was chosen by the Board, and approved by the Hannibal City Council earlier this year, after a study was conducted by a St. Louis firm that recommended it. The city's switching away from chloramines as a way to disinfect the water supply, after voters overwhelmingly approved a referendum on the matter in 2017. The city's paying for the facility by issuing up to 17 and a half million dollars in bonds, which was approved by voters in August.
Bids will be accepted by the BPW until 2 PM on January 7th. The Board plans to open them immediately after that.
