If approved, measure would charge user fee to maintain city's storm water system

The Hannibal Board of Public Works plans to hold two public hearings in March over its' proposed ballot measure asking for a user fee on the city's stormwater system.

Those hearings will be held March 2nd and March 28th, at 6:30 PM in City Council chambers. The city will have a measure on the April 2nd ballot asking residents to approve the user fee of about $6 a month. The Hannibal City Council Tuesday night approved putting the issue on the ballot. A press release says that approval of Proposition S would let Hannibal implement a stormwater fee structure. That fee would set up a separate utility for the stormwater system. The BPW says it's been looking into the matter since June 2017, and that if Prop S passes, they would be able to fix failing infrastructure, assess the system and start capital projects. The city says that more info is available online at hannibalbpw.org.

An additional educational presentation will be held March 26th at 6:30 PM at the Hannibal Public Library.
