A Hannibal church wants to open a facility for recovering addicts in the former Pettibone School at 6th and North Streets. Jim Dewey has more

Embassy Church, which now uses the former school building, has asked the Hannibal Building Inspector whether it would be possible to open a home for women who are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. Pastor Kevin Williams explained to council that many women come out of treatment having lost their families, with no place to live and are given a choice.

One neighbor spoke out to council against the idea and asked council for a zoning change to prevent the project. Williams agreed to organize a meeting with neighborhood residents to better explain his idea. City Manager Jeff LaGarce says otherwise, there is little, if anything, the city can do...

In other action, the council gave second and final reading to the city's fiscal 2019 budget. A line item referring to the salary and job description of the Street Department Superintendent was tabled so the council can get a chance to understand changes made to the job description.
