Resolution of support may help land state tax credits

One day after Marion County threw its' support behind a plan to turn the former Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital into senior assisted living apartments, the Hannibal City Council did the same thing.

The Council Tuesday night passed a resolution supporting Hill Tide Partners and Belmont Development Company in converting the former hospital building into assisted-living apartments. The Marion County Board Monday authorized a letter of recommendation for the project, where the City, who currently has title to the property, will apply for tax credits for the project, before transferring ownership to the developers. The Council also approved a first reading of a proposed ordinance that would authorize issuing up to $65 million in bonds for General Mills to use for expanding its’ Hannibal plant. The Council also approved a first reading of a proposed ordinance to set the city's municipal election for next April 3rd.

Both will have a second and final reading October 31st.
