A special prosecutor may be brought in to handle case against Demetrice Moffett

A Hannibal man, charged in connection with an alleged kidnapping and sexual assault in Hannibal last May, may face a special prosecutor when he goes on trial in April.

A three-day trial for Demetrice Moffett starting April 22nd was set Monday in Marion County Circuit Court. Court records also show that on Monday, Marion County Prosecuting Attorney Luke Bryant filed a motion asking that a special prosecutor from the Missouri Attorney General's Office be brought in to handle Moffett's case. He's charged with 1st Degree Rape, Kidnapping and Armed Criminal Action, and is accused of assaulting the victim in a Hannibal motel. Two other men face charges in the case. Kenny Lumpford's charged with Kidnapping and Domestic Assault, while Travis Gerard's facing charges of Receiving Stolen Property and Manufacturing Marijuana. He's accused of providing a .45 caliber handgun to Moffett and Lumpford. Lumpford's alleged to have known the victim, and made a deal with Moffett to take him to her, in exchange for drugs and money.

Gerard's free on bond, Moffett's in the Marion County Jail on $100,000 cash-only bond and Lumpford's being held by the Missouri Department of Corrections.
