Hannibal man accused of robbing taxi Monday night

Donovan Cooper, 21, being held in incident

One man has been arrested after allegedly trying to rob a taxi Monday night in Hannibal.

Police identify the man as 21-year old Donovan Cooper of Hannibal, and say the incident happened just before 10 P.M. Monday near Hope and Griffith Streets, on the city's southwest side. A report says that a taxi driver told officers a passenger showed a handgun and demanded money. The driver gave the passenger the money, and the passenger, later identified as Cooper, then ran away. He was found by officers shortly after the incident and arrested on counts of 1st Degree Robbery and Armed Criminal Action. Police also say they found a handgun.

Cooper's in the Marion County Jail, awaiting the filing of formal charges.
